Industry Week New Venue for Automotive Media Conference

New time slot for conference signals increased attendance, participation

The International Automotive Media Conference, the IAMC, will be held as a featured prelude to Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW), it was co-announced by Charles R. Blum, president of SEMA, and Walter Haessner, administrator of the IAMC.

The 1999 media conference is scheduled for October 31 and November 1 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, the weekend preceding AAIW.

IAMC activities will begin on Sunday morning and continue through Monday evening, November 1, with an awards banquet, at which a series of presentations are made to appropriately recognize outstanding achievements in journalistic prowess, both print and electronics mediums. Among the awards is the IAMA Recognition of Lifetime Achievement, which was presented last year to David E. Davis Jr.

AAIW includes the APAA/ASIA/MEMA Show in the Sands Convention Center, and the SEMA Show· International Tire Expo in the Las Vegas Convention Center, November 2 - 5. The trade-only extravaganza attracts more than 75,0000 representatives of automotive aftermarket businesses.

"It is with pride that AAIW welcomes the International Automotive Media Conference as a part of our week-long schedule of automotive aftermarket industry affairs," stated Blum. He emphasized the importance of the media to Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week, stating, "Having the IAMC a part of show week gives us an opportunity to welcome delegates from the full spectrum of the communications universe. It is our intent to appropriately accommodate our friends of the press corps, who will be special guests at the 1999 AAIW productions."

"The IAMC is a working conference that has been praised for the quality of its presentations, seminars and discussion groups," Haessner said. "Cooperating with AAIW by scheduling the conference on the eve of show week is a win-win situation for everyone concerned. Media reps who are both AAIW and IAMC "regulars," who routinely attend both the conference and the shows, will be able to fulfill their plans with one trip to Las Vegas.

"We anticipate a synergism in the new relationship that will enhance the entire range of activities available to visiting press representatives, from the IAMC functions to daily visits to the vast AAIW expositions in two halls, a virtual fountain of late-breaking auto industry news and developments."

Both Blum and Haessner agreed they expect press representation at AAIW to increase substantially as a result of the cooperative arrangement.
